Matt’s desire pulsed through his dismissal and grabbed Chloe deep in her core. Now that she’d apologized for her cutting remarks, it was obvious he still wanted her, just as she wanted him. She’d complained to her sisters about not having a man to dally with during her final weeks on earth, and here was Dr. Studly, offering himself for the task a second time, with no strings attached.

Could anything be easier?

As far as she could tell, Eros’s shenanigans had nothing to do with Matt’s longing. He was a man, and all males, be they mortal or not, were drawn to her. Now that she was forewarned where Hera and the pesky love god were concerned, it seemed logical the two of them could share a night of passion freely, without any of the silly sentiment usually associated with intimacy.

Because with or without Eros’s influence, she was attracted to Matt in the most basic of ways. If he could keep his emotions in check and think of her as pumpkin pie, it stood to reason she could imagine him as baklava. The sticky sweet, honey and phyllo concoction was her favorite, and she feasted on it with relish, but after eating an entire box, she didn’t want to see another slice for at least a month.

Engaging in a single night of impersonal sex with Matthew Castleberry was sure to satisfy them both and allow them to move on. And if the worst happened, and she craved more of him before she returned home, she would control her libido and wait until her arrival on Olympus, where she could have any of the hundreds of men living there who were willing and able to take his place.

“Are you sure you can treat our interaction as nothing more than a fling?” she asked, just to be doubly sure. “Because I wouldn’t want any emotional interference or sappy sentiment gumming up the works.”

His hand tightened around her waist and his thumb traced delicate circles on her rib cage. “I’m willing to give it a shot if you are,” he said in a rasp.

“Well, then—”

Matt wasted no time. Brushing his lips against her temple and down her cheek, he searched for her mouth. When he found it, he groaned, and Chloe’s stomach clenched. He deepened the kiss, and she let her body lead her into new yet familiar territory. She’d always believed men were the same the world over, though some had more clever mouths, and hands that knew better where to touch and tease and stroke.

And if they didn’t, she was an expert at guiding them until they did exactly what she wanted.

He plied her lips with his tongue, and she opened to the erotic invasion. The kiss permeated her senses and sent a cluster of shock waves from her head to her toes. He threaded his fingers through her hair, sifted the curling tendrils, and spread them over her shoulders. Then his palms cupped her chin, grazed her neck, and caressed her back, where he found the zipper of her dress and inched it down.
